Educational visits
A visit to Kents Cavern can cover many curriculum subjects, particularly at Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 but also well into secondary school and further education. The cave is the most important Stone Age dwelling in Britain and this makes it a unique natural resource. Here people of all ages can learn about the history and geography of these famous Devon caves. Our programme of educational visits is designed to deliver learning and enjoyment across a range of curriculum subjects all within the safe underground environment of the oldest home in Britain. FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLSThe Sensory ExperienceFor 5-7 Year Olds To stimulate the 5 natural human senses, with an exploration of the vocabulary of the senses and a chance to appreciate the cave's impact to visitors over the last 350,000 years. Covers material relevant to Key Stage 1 in the history, science, geography and english curriculum.
Early TimesFor 8-11 Year Olds A selection of experiences from the earliest human visitors to the Victorian Explorers. Relevant to Key Stage 2 in the history and geography curriculum.
Rocks & MineralsFor 8-11 Year Olds An introduction to rocks and minerals, their formation, description, properties and simple classification. A closer look at Limestone and the formation of the caves and their features. Relevant to Key Stage 2 in the science and geography curriculum.
