Educational exhibit in Chicago

We were
pleasantly surprised to be invited to demonstrate new developments in
draw-over with the Diamedica Portable Anaesthesia machines at
the educational exhibition at the American Society of Anaesthesiology
meeting in Chicago in October.
New ISO standards

month the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published a new
standard for inhalational anaesthesia systems for use in areas with limited
logistical supplies of electricity and anaesthetic gases.

Heading for the Fjords

Diamedica is heading north this summer to attend the
31st Congress of the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesia and
Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI) 2011 in Norway. The biannual congress rotates
between the five Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway and
Sweden) and this year will take place between 15th to 17th
June at the Grieg Hall in Bergen, Norway.
Have Portable, Will Travel

Canadian anaesthetist Shaun
Marshall purchased a Diamedica Portable Anaesthesia Machine (model DPA 01) to
take on missions to Guatemala. Shaun, an Associate Professor at the University
of Western Ontario, and his GP wife Bonnie like to be involved in international
healthcare.
Breath of Life

Republic of South Sudan will officially be born following a historic
independence referendum. It is therefore fitting that the first anaesthetic
machine provided by the Bideford Bridge Rotary Club’s ‘Breath of Life’ campaign
is going to help the birth of the youngest country in the world.
A trip to Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital

Diamedica Managing
Director, Robert Neighbour, recently returned from a trip to the Addis Ababa
Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. The hospital provides free treatment for poor
women with childbirth injuries. Robert’s visit was to help with the maintenance
of the hospital’s four Glostavent ® anaesthetic machines and provide training
for local staff.
New flagship hospital for Rwanda

Situated on a stunning mountain top, the
new Butaro District Hospital was officially opened on 24th January
by Rwandan President Paul Kagame. The flagship hospital serves the remote
Burera District of northern Rwanda, which three years ago had no electricity,
difficult roads and only one doctor for some 350,000 people.
First Glostavent® for St Walburg's Hospital

Donation to Pallisa District Hospital, Uganda

New training for anaesthetists in Zambia

The University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia is to provide a new MMed training course for anaesthetists. The new course was launched this month at the National Anaesthesia Conference of the Zambian Branch of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) held in the hospital in Lusaka, 6 - 8 October.
World Humanitarian Day

Improvements at Bansang Hospital, the Gambia

Bright ideas at the Royal Society of Medicine
